A Micro Wedding Story Under the Sunset

There’s something undeniably magical about an intimate wedding—especially when it takes place on a breathtaking Kauai beach at sunset. In October, I had the absolute honour of photographing my brother’s micro wedding on the north shore of Kauai, and let me tell you—it was pure perfection.

Picture this: golden light reflecting off the ocean, lush mountains standing tall in the background, and only their closest family and friends gathered barefoot in the sand. Simple, beautiful, and so full of love.

My brother and his (now) wife wanted a wedding that felt easy, stress-free, and deeply personal—and that’s exactly what they got. They chose a quiet, secluded beach on Kauai’s north shore, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like time slowed down.

As the sun began to set, they stood hand in hand, exchanging heartfelt vows while the waves gently rolled in. No elaborate decor, no strict timelines—just the two of them, their closest people, and the most stunning backdrop nature could provide. The golden-hour glow wrapped everything in warmth, and as a wedding photographer, I was in absolute heaven capturing every little moment of their love story!

Why a Beach Micro Wedding is Pure Magic

If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding but don’t want the stress of a huge event, a micro wedding on the beach might just be the perfect answer. With a small guest list, you can truly be present and soak in every second. It’s about experiencing the day, rather than just planning for it.

Instead of worrying about hundreds of guests, my brother and wife spent the evening laughing, crying happy tears, and celebrating with the people who mean the most to them. The ocean breeze, the warm sand, the pastel sky at sunset—it all came together to create the most unforgettable experience. And honestly? It made me fall even more in love with the beauty of intimate weddings.

Planning a Beach Wedding? Here’s What You Need to Know!

Thinking about a beach wedding? Here are a few insider tips to make it picture-perfect:
Plan for Golden Hour – Sunset ceremonies offer the dreamiest lighting for photos and a cooler, more comfortable atmosphere.
Keep It Simple – Natural beauty is already breathtaking. You can’t go wrong with few tropical florals or a mountain backdrop.
Dress for the Beach – Flowy fabrics, lightweight attire, and barefoot-friendly looks will keep you comfortable and stylish.
Be Wind-Ready – Some beaches can be breezy! Secure hairstyles and fasten long veils that could end up in the ocean.
Check Beach Permits – Some locations require a permit for ceremonies, so be sure to check the local regulations ahead of time.

Photographing my brother’s wedding was such a special experience and a reminder that weddings don’t have to be big to be incredibly meaningful. If you’re considering a micro wedding or elopement, I’d love to help you document it in the most natural, joy-filled way!
